Hamster wheel

Why does a treadmill have to be plugged in? The whole point of going to a gym is to exert energy, yet somehow it’s completely normal to think that stationary bikes or treadmills need outlets—and not to feed electricity back into the grid. The TV and all the other fancy displays wouldn’t run and not even the treadmill itself moves without external power. Unplugging treadmills won’t save the planet, but rethinking the way we treat energy as a low-cost, always-there resource may well be a deciding factor. And I’m not even talking about something as radical as going for a run outside. Keep running in place. Just think about how motivating it would be if the TV went out whenever you slowed down.
